Fire Making

Fire Starter:
Cotton Ball & Petroleum Jelly.
Enough to make at least 10 fires maybe more depending on how you use it. You want to use about a thumb nails sized piece, and spread it out kind of flat in order to catch the sparks.
There is nothing special about this Fire Starter. Straight out of 64-4 USAF Survival Manual. Cotton Ball impregnated with Petroleum jelly. This is IMHO the best fire starter out there. Its cheap and easy to make and it works wells. The Petroleum jelly does two things, it waterproofs the cotton and also acts like a fuel. The Petroleum jelly actually slows down the burn rate so a little piece lasts longer than without the Petroleum jelly. You can also use Dryer lent instead of cotton. It doesn't work quite as well but still pretty good.

Ferro Rod & Striker not included, for size comparison only.
Ferro Rod: Rod, right of ruler.
  This is a 3mm/1/8" Dia., & 50mm/2" long.
This is a very small rod meant to be stowed in a survival kit. This is great to add to your DIY Survival Kit or other kits. The larger
(Ferro Rod & Ruler Not Included) is 8mm/5/16" & 76mm/3" long (for size comparison only) is a standard sized Ferro rod. So you can see just how small the Rod is. Take note that this is considered a soft type rod. Meaning it has Magnesium in it as well. So that means it will not last as long as a "hard" type like some of the Swedish Fire Steels. I'm gonna try and find a "Hard" type to add to the store for those that prefer those.
Model: 3mmFRod,
$1.95 each, 3 for $4.95
Fire Starter:
Waxed Jute. 3 Feet.
This is probably my 2nd favorite fire tinder after the Cotton/Jelly tinder. The wax waterproofs the Jute and also acts like a fuel and slows down and prolongs the burn rate. An inch or two is all that is needed to start a fire. Pull the fibers apart and light.
Model: WaxJt3.
3', $2.95
